EV 1.3.2 Assess opportunities and interests of local farmers in Agri-tourism.
The importance of agritourism is defined by Florida Statute 570.86 as “any agricultural related activity consistent with a bona fide farm or ranch or in a working forest which allows members of the general public to view or enjoy activities related to farming, ranching, historical, cultural or harvest-your-own attractions for recreational, entertainment or educational purposes.” Florida agritourism is a significant cash crop for many farmers and ranchers. More than half of Florida's 47,590 farms are small, earning less than $5,000 annually, and this holds true for Flagler County farmers as well. On a small-scale, it is important for farm businesses to diversify revenue streams to ensure they survive and agritourism provides many with the income needed to sustain and grow their business.
